A pilot project in the Metro Washington market to demonstrate how SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment) technology can be implemented in targeted professional venues – implementing the larger goal of MAINSTREAMING Addiction Health in the larger Healthcare System.

Messaging for the public and special targeted professions on the history and efficacy of SBIRT.
Demonstrate SBIRT messages and process in a booth at the NBC Health and Fitness fair, positioning in Doreen Gentzler’s CHANGING MINDS section.
Project should include each year a public relations program to focus on screening activities and gain public recognition for progress in various institutions and sectors.
Plan can contain mailers and other informational channels to reach decision makers in the health profession, business, and government.
Conference
An annual conference is envisioned that would invite HR and Health personnel and feature nationally recognized experts. Conference could collaborate with the NBC Health and Fitness Fair.
Training
The Aquila Foundation should serve as a referral and traffic center to provide SBIRT training to front line nurses and health professionals. This training would be provided by Praxis and would include workshops and follow up on-line work that would result in credentialing.
Research
The pilot project would include a research element to chart progress on public understanding as well as the activation of health and other professionals who engage in SBIRT practice.
